Bevill State Community College currently has several construction projects taking place on its Sumiton Campus. These projects are part of the ongoing effort to make upgrades and improvements college-wide.

Projects include:

  • There is active construction in Building 600 which houses the Vehicle Technology & Repair – Automotive Service Excellence program. The upgrades in this location are to meet the modern industry standards better aligning the program with the needs of our industry partners, such as Mercedes-Benz.
  • Pre-construction meetings are complete for Buildings 500 and 800, with construction anticipated to begin soon.
    • Building 500 formerly housed Distance Learning. It is being converted for the College’s Electrical Programs which include Electrical Systems Technology, Industrial Systems Technology, and Industrial Mechanical Maintenance Technology. The upgrades to this facility will lead to program enhancement and an increased emphasis on commercial and residential electrical education.
    • Building 800 is being remodeled for the re-introduction of the Welding Program to the Sumiton Campus. Bevill State will now offer education in this high-wage, high-demand career field in Fayette, Hamilton, Jasper, and Sumiton.
  • Additional projects are planned for the Sumiton Campus and information will be released as it becomes available.
“The College currently has construction taking place on multiple campuses. We are very excited to begin the Sumiton Campus renovations. These state-of-the-art upgrades will improve the programs Bevill State offers. This is another milestone as we continue to strive to better serve our students, business & industry, and communities. Support from our legislators and the ACCS Board of Trustees is what helps to make these endeavors feasible,” stated Dr. Joel Hagood, President of Bevill State Community College.

“This is exciting news for Bevill State Community College and West Alabama. The Sumiton Campus of BSCC has long-needed upgrades, maintenance, and repairs. I am sure these campus enhancements will be a driving force for the continued recruitment of students, faculty, and staff,” said Alabama Senate President Pro Tempore Greg Reed (R-Jasper). “In addition to the capital improvements, the resurgence of the welding program on the BSCC Sumiton Campus is going to have a profound impact on not only the College but also the workforce in our area. I am thankful for Dr. Hagood’s profound leadership in his role and his steadfast dedication to growing opportunities for Senate District 5.”

“I am excited about the renovations taking place on the Sumiton Campus. These projects began while I was still a member of the ACCS Board of Trustees. The facility upgrades will allow Bevill State to continue to meet the needs of industry partners while providing a first-class learning environment for students. The return of the welding program to Sumiton will enhance opportunities for students across the region,” stated Representative Matt Woods, State House District 13. “I am thankful for my former board members, Chancellor Baker, and the Alabama Legislature, for investing in the future workforce of Walker County.”
